SP4 SUMMARY

Here are the links to my SP4 Projects:

1. Publication Project

I made a website to present and publish my video on. The video can be opened by clicking ‘The Look’ - orrrr… here’s a direct link to the video itself.

2. Truism Project

Online here - I’m not entirely happy with this outcome but I think my video skills have hopefully progressed over time.

Finally, my online sketchbook is available here.

I wanted to make a simple website to accompany my publication video. I didn’t want it to be too busy or colourful to detract from the video, here is my outcome. The image to the right changes at random on every refresh, I’m going to work on adding more GIFs as it helps in portraying the playfulness. My only gripe is that the images aren’t all the same size. Also hopefully it works in all browsers as web design isn’t particularly my forte!

I’m in the process of attempting to create some imagery to accompany my final video piece.

As part of my project I have been exploring different methods of filming.
Within my photoshoot I used iPhones/Digital SLRs/Analog Cameras - the end product will hopefully combine all three to create an interesting video.

This footage combines all the footage created using iPhone apps, unedited - simply with music added to create something a bit more exciting. I am not planning on using this within my final piece, but wanted to feature it for its playfulness, experimentation and mainly just to show us messing around in the studio, using new technology and iPhone apps.

Moving Image

Being passionate about Fashion & Retail, I’m really interested in the way in which such brands have begun to further entice consumers through use of new Social Media. Recent years has seen an explosion in relation to the way in which we network (via websites such as Twitter, Youtube and Facebook) and by making use of such (free) tools brands are beginning to connect with their consumer like never before.

I’ve noticed the ever-growing trend in short viral videos; used alongside promotional Photo Shoots fashion brands have begun to produce (solely for the purpose of the Internet; and not for television advertising, etc.) - further promoting a ‘lifestyle’ for their target consumer.

As someone interested specifically in retail & fashion, and as a Graphic Communicator, I believe it is important for me to try and learn such skills as working with moving image as a medium. It is something I am not familiar with, but am really interested in learning. I created a short video today to try and get familiar with such skills and learn more about editing and cutting techniques, etc… This is really just a starting point for me and aim to become confident in producing high quality work from this.

Currently I keep finding myself looking at loads of ad campaigns and historical fashion videos to gain inspiration for future projects.

Here’s a link to another outcome of the video: http://vimeo.com/38454471

(Initial ideas for an indent for my future publication project):

I’ve been exploring the use of projection - then filming using cut out stencils/re-filming on phones etc to play about with quality and effects.

I wanted to explore traditional methods rather than produce my final piece digitally, so took inspiration from a previous project i did last year - caspian sea.

These are just some initial mock ups and won’t be used in the final piece.

…background music is currently just a filler..

2012 // Summer Project REWORKED.
euuughh. the joys of being perhaps one of the most disorganised/scatty people ALIVE. I somehow managed to ‘misplace’ my summer project from 2011… just in time for assessment. (see the previous works here).
This evening I decided to rework the final piece and attempt to inject more colour into the final outcome - to be fair I am enjoying experimenting with colour more as I feel perhaps the final outcome was a little bland which kind of opposes the whole subject topic of the piece. Here is some of my current experiments with colour. Any feedback is greatly appreciated… Do you prefer the original piece or do you think the injection of colour could work better?

2011 // “things”
i’ve always been interested in the idea of using the imagery i make within university and trying to find a use for them within a commercial way. in the future i aim to make various different homeware items, using my designs to sell. i’ve been toying with this idea for way too long so decided to finally get down and make some things. here are some initial concepts, using my deer design as a christmas card, and my fox design to create t-shirts and small pillows. i want to further expand the collection to feature all my work to date (eventually) including my dinosaurs from last year.

2011 // uni // coloured foxes
this is more developmental work in preperation for my static image final piece. i’m still not sure in which way or angle to approach the project, so began by creating a fox illustration and experimenting with colour.. i believe the final outcome will be based around something such as country living/fox hunting/taxidermy etc, etc…

2011 // uni // web-design
this morning I created and coded a simple web layout to display my ‘know your limits’ animation. I wanted to keep the layout very simple and basic in order to allow the animation itself to remain the main focus.
